International News: Mexican President condemns attack on prominent journalist

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador condemned a gun attack on prominent news anchor, Ciro Gomez Leyva, Reuters report.

Leyva said that 2 culprits on a motorcycle shot at him while he was driving his car.

Leyva says that thanks to the vehicle’s armor, he was still alive.

The Mexican President had repeatedly lambasted Leyva and other journalists for their criticism of his policies.

However, this morning, he opened his conference by denouncing the attack on Leyva.

“He’s a journalist, a human being, but he’s also a leader of public opinion. Hurting a figure like Ciro creates a lot of political instability,” Lopez Obrador said.

Reporters Without Borders note that Mexico is the world’s most dangerous country for journalists.
