Marciel Toledo sentenced to 30 years in jail for killing police officer he claims had an affair with his wife

By Breaking Belize News Staff: On Friday, Salvadoran national Marciel Toledo, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the brutal murder of Police Constable Marvin Locke, following his plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Toledo appeared before Justice Susan Lamb for his sentencing hearing, where he was told of the factors that influenced the 30-year sentence.

Mitigating factors included his early guilty plea, the fact that he took responsibility for his actions, and seemed remorseful for them.

However, Justice Lam said that the killing of law enforcement personnel was an egregious act and that an example needs to be made of Toledo to discourage others from doing the same.

Justice Lamb told Toledo that he is not eligible for parole until he has served 15 years, but that she deducted 10 years from the total for his early guilty plea as well as the 5 years, 8 months, and 18 days he spent on remand, leaving him with 9 years 5 months and 12 days to serve before parole eligibility.

On March 26, 2017, Toledo, after having an argument with his wife, went to the Racoon Street Police Station and waited for PC Locke to exit the building. Toledo then stabbed him five times to the chest before he was subdued by other officers at the station.
