By Aaron Humes: Chairman of the Sugar Industry Control Board (SICB) Marcos Osorio sent a notice this evening stating that “An Emergency SICB Meeting was held on December 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM.”
The result of that meeting is that the “Board has passed a Resolution that the 2022-2023 crop start date is December 27, 2022 with the proviso that BSI and BSCFA sign a Commercial Agreement.”
There is as yet no indication of how close that is to happening, as the two sides remain in mediation and behind closed doors, unable to comment because of the nature of the process.
Meanwhile, some are eager to start, arguing that the mill has enough cane from the other three cane farmers’ associations to get started and blaming the SICB for waiting on the BSCFA.
We continue to follow developments.
