Man remanded to prison on ammunition offense; Says police officer threatened to kill him

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-eight-year-old Kareem Harvey, who was charged with several offenses this week, says that he is fearful for the lives of himself and his loved ones after being threatened by a police officer.

Harvey was taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was charged with one count of resisting arrest, one count of assaulting a police officer, and one count of keeping unlicensed ammunition.

In court, he refused to give his address, explaining that an officer had threatened to kill him while he was being detained. He went on to accuse the officers who processed him of planting the unlicensed ammunition on him when he arrived at the station.

As the unlicensed ammunition charge falls within the scope of a firearms offense, bail was denied and he was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until January 24, 2023.

The allegations against him are that he struggled with officers trying to detain him after he was found with five live rounds of .9mm ammunition on December 17.
