International News: Six gang members escape from Paraguay prison through tunnel

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Authorities in Paraguay are on a manhunt for 6 members of a gang who broke out of a prison through a tunnel, BBC reports.

The criminals belong to Brazil’s largest gang, First Command of the Capital (PCC), which has been expanding to Paraguay.

Officials are investigating if the hole was dug by construction workers or the inmates.

Police have managed to capture 3 of the escapees and 3 more are on the run.

Local news says that they escaped early Tuesday morning.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the hole in the ground had been left after construction work had been carried out and that police had not been informed of the “improvement works”.

However, another media outlet said the hole could have been dug by the inmates themselves.
