Youth fined over $100 for 13 grams of weed

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City youth caught with 13 grams of marijuana, three grams over the decriminalized limit, was fined in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week.

Nineteen-year-old Ashton Smith was arraigned on Tuesday, charged with a single count of possession of controlled drugs.

Smith pleaded guilty and was fined $100 plus $5.00 cost of court which he was given until January 20, 2023 to pay or he will spend a month in prison for defaulting.

On Monday, December 19, police conducting mobile patrols noticed someone running into an abandoned building on Raccoon Street after seeing the police truck.

The officers set chase and apprehended Smith and found the marijuana upon searching his immediate surroundings.
