Elderly couple charged with drug possession: Husband says he boils marijuana for medicinal purposes

By Breaking Belize News: An elderly couple from Belize City was taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court over marijuana possession today.

Jamaican national 69-year-old, Barrington Taylor, and his wife, 63-year-old Hortense Vaughan were arraigned on a single count of possession of controlled drugs, in relation to 30 grams of marijuana found at their home in the St. Martin’s area of Belize City.

In court, Taylor pleaded guilty to the charge, explaining to the Magistrate that he boils the marijuana to make medicinal tea.

For his guilty plea, Taylor was fined $300 plus the $5 cost of court. He was given until February 28, 2023, to pay or face three months in jail in default.

Meanwhile, the charge was withdrawn from Vaughn.
