International News: China sends 39 warplanes, 3 ships toward Taiwan in 24 hours

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Taiwanese Defence Ministry announced that China’s military sent 39 planes and 3 ships toward Taiwan in a 24-hour display of force, the Associated Press reports.

There are heightened tensions between Taiwan and China since China views Taiwan as its territory and has long vowed to “reunify” the self-governing democratic island.

China’s “harassment” of Taiwan has intensified in recent years.

According to the report, 30 Chinese planes crossed the median of the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan’s officials say that the planes flew to the Island’s southwest and then horizontally all the way to the southeastern side before doubling back.

In August, China’s military conducted military exercises in response to U.S. House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
