International News: U.S. airlines cancel almost 2,000 flights as winter storm disrupts holiday travel

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Almost 2,000 flights scheduled for today and tomorrow ahead of Christmas Eve and Christmas in the United States had to be canceled due to a winter storm, Reuters report.

An Arctic blast surged across a wide swath of the country ahead of a powerful winter storm.

As of this morning, total cancellations were at 1,239 flights as per tracking website FlightAware, and an additional 699 flights for Friday were also canceled.

In 2021, flights were also canceled during the Christmas holiday after an outbreak of COVID-19 among staff of airlines.

Airlines Delta, United Airlines, and American said they were waiving change fees and fare differences for passengers in affected areas.

The U.S. airlines say they continue to monitor the weather situation.
