By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: More than 4,000 flights by major U.S. airlines have been canceled over a 2-day period due to a powerful winter storm that is hitting the United States, Reuters report.
The cancelations have ruined holiday plans for many families.
Experts say this Holiday season could have been the busiest ever.
Flight tracking website, FlightAware noted that on Thursday, 2,350 flights were canceled and today another 2,120 flights were also canceled.
In addition, passenger railroad Amtrak canceled dozens of trains through Christmas, disrupting holiday travel for tens of thousands.
On Thursday, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said that the winter storm was bringing blizzard conditions to the Midwest, with major travel disruptions expected in Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
In 2021, flights were also canceled during the Christmas holiday after an outbreak of COVID-19 among staff of airlines.
Airlines Delta, United Airlines, and American said they were waiving change fees and fare differences for passengers in affected areas.
The U.S. airlines say they continue to monitor the weather situation.
