Meighan brothers granted $30,000 bail after 9 months on remand

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Following nine months on remand at the Belize Central Prison after having their bail revoked, the Supreme Court granted bail to Tyrone and Ellis Meighan.

The Meighan brothers appeared before Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft, where they were offered bail in the sum of $30,000 that can be split into only three sureties with either cash or land documents. Their bail conditions also stipulate that they must remain confined in their home until their case is concluded with only the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. being allotted for them to be outside.

They must also sign into a designated police station every day of the week and surrender all travel documents to the court.

Their next court date is set for January 16, 2023.

The brothers were charged with being a member of a gang back in 2020, but absconded. They were detained by Mexican authorities in March, allegedly trying to enter the United States illegally. The court then revoked their bail and remanded them to prison.
