By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prime Minister, John Briceño has extended Seasons greetings to all Belizeans and reflected on the unity of Belizean people.
“This time of the year, is always special because we get to spend it with close family and friends. Certainly, this year is even more significant considering what we have been through these past few years,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister said that from the lockdowns due to COVID-19 and the recent Hurricane Lisa which caused so much damage, “together we have weathered some turbulent times.”
The Prime Minister also thanked the servicemen and women for their exemplary dedication and service to Belize.
“Among the things I am thankful for is our remarkable men and women in uniform, especially our BDF soldiers, who stepped up to help before, during and after the storm. They together with our police officers and members of the Coast Guard were on the front lines of our emergency management and the process of recovery,” he added.
In addition, PM Briceño extended gratitude to the volunteers who assisted with the clean-up, including the hundreds of volunteers who assisted through the Red Cross, public officers who kept hurricane shelters open so that those who lost their homes had a roof over their heads for as long as was needed and yes, our amazing cane farmers who left their fields to go into those affected areas to clean up.
“Your example is the meaning of service, your generosity is the true Belizean spirit,” he said.
“On behalf of Rosanna and from all the members of my family: Daniel, Johnny, and Andre to your family, I wish you a safe and happy Christmas. Feliz Navidad!”
