Ministry of Immigration to address passport demand

Posted: Saturday, December 24, 2022. 8:55 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Immigration Senator Eamon Courtenay has conceded that demands for the new EPICS passports “has far exceeded normal demand. We have had to bring forward resupply date.”

According to Channel 7 News, the Ministry will provide official information at a later date, but to date, it is not clear how many of the regular passports remain available, with waiting times extended into early 2023.

Since the launch of the new system near the end of October, demand has been high and the first batch is reported to be nearly finished, except for the reserve stack for persons with medical emergencies.

The new passports offer additional layers of security of information and travel for the same price, as well as less hassle in applying for one, with appointment times set up entirely online and one in-person visit needed to take official photographs and so on.
