BREAKING: Fallen tree entering St. Margaret’s, Cayo causing major obstruction to traffic on Hummingbird Highway

Posted: Monday, December 26, 2022. 10:25 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are advising motorists entering St. Margaret’s Village, Cayo District on the Hummingbird Highway from the direction of Belmopan to be cautious.

That’s because as you’re approaching the sharp curve, a tree has fallen on the highway from the hill on the eastern side of the highway.

The tree is reported to be covering most of the highway, allowing for a small space for drivers on the right shoulder traveling south to pass it.

Authorities are asking for anyone who can assist in cutting the tree and clearing it to report to the area while police direct traffic.

It is not clear how the tree fell although likely it was caused by wet and windy conditions as a result of the cold front over our area at present.
