By Aaron Humes: A post-mortem examination on the body of tour guide Julio Escobar, 39, of Armenia, Cayo District, certified that he died by drowning on Saturday afternoon and that foul play was apparently not involved.
Escobar was out on a tour, according to police, when his tube was overturned and he was flung out after making contact with a log. He and other tour guides had been seeking a safer crossing route on the flooding Caves Branch River after noticing that the river was rising rapidly around 11:30 a.m.
The remaining tour guides and their guests were safely removed from the scene, but Escobar disappeared under the waters. After hours of searches by Astrum Helicopters, his body was recovered further upstream on Christmas Eve night around 8 p.m.
