By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Hattiveille couple accused of having a stolen TV contend that they have proof that the TV is theirs.

Thirty-one-year-old, Elmer Martinez and his wife, 29-year-old, Erica Martinez, appeared in the Belize City MAgistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged jointly with a single count of handling stolen goods.

They both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same each.

In court, Elmer Martinez told the Magistrate that they are in possession of the original receipt for the TV, which, despite being in another person’s name proves that they are the rightful owners.

When questioned by the Magistrate about the case, the prosecutor said that the TV, which is valued at $799.00, is the property of Eugene Thompson which was stolen during a burglary back in 2020.

The couple is due back in court on February 23, 2023.
