By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hospitals and medical professionals in China are under extreme pressure as COVID-19 cases continue to soar, Reuters report.

The surge in cases has drained resources and there is uncertainty about the scale of the outbreak amidst doubts over official data.

Several countries are now considering new COVID-19 rules for travelers from China.

The lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in China has prompted a rapid increase in cases likely infecting millions of people a day, according to some international health experts.

Hospitals say that almost all patients have COVID-19 and emergency centers were swamped.

And funeral homes are extremely busy with constant funeral processions.

“We have to do this about 200 times a day now,” said one funeral worker. “We are so busy we don’t even have time to eat. This has been the case since the opening up. Before it was around 30-50 a day.”

Data from China showed only 1 COVID-19 death in 7 days fueling doubts among health experts about the statistics.

Data from a UK-based health data firm estimates that China is facing over a million COVID-19 infections and about 5,000 deaths daily.
