International News: Pope Francis asks for prayers for former Pope Benedict

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Pope Francis is calling on all to pray for former Pope Benedict who is “very sick”, CNN reports.

Pope Benedict, 95, resigned from the post 9 years ago.

“I want to ask you all for a special prayer for Pope Emeritus Benedict who sustains the Church in his silence. He is very sick,” Pope Francis said.

“We ask the Lord to console and sustain him in this witness of love for the Church to the very end,” the Pontiff added.

News from the Vatican is that Pope Benedict’s health has deteriorated over the last few hours.

“The situation at the moment remains under control and continually monitored by his doctors,” Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni, said.

In 2013, Pope Benedict XVI resigned from his position, citing “advanced age.”
