U.S. Embassy shares Christmas cheer through #ToysForTots in Belmopan

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On December 27, 2022, the U.S. Embassy’s Marine Security Guard Detachment was joined by U.S. Ambassador Michelle Kwan as they visited King’s Children’s Home in Belmopan to spread some holiday cheer.

The toy donation drive was done through the U.S. Embassy’s annual #ToysForTots toy donation drive.

“Toys for Tots” is a U.S. Marine Corps charitable program that was founded in Los Angeles in 1947 by a Marine Corps reservist.

This longstanding Marine tradition has spread worldwide and was brought to Belize in 2019 by the U.S. Embassy Belmopan Marine Security Guard Detachment.

Since then, U.S. Embassy Belmopan Marines have organized a yearly holiday toy drive within the U.S. Embassy community to collect and distribute toys, books, and other gifts to children in need across Belize.

“We thank everyone in the U.S. Embassy community who contributed gifts this year, and we salute our Marines for sharing the magic of the #holidayspirit with children in Belize,” the U.S. Embassy said.
