Brazilian soccer legend Pelé dies at 82

Posted: Thursday, December 29, 2022. 1:28 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, died earlier today at the age of 82.

Considered by many the best football player ever, Pelé, born on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, Minas Gerais in Brazil, won the World Cup three times in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

Pelé had been operated for a colon cancer in 2021 but recently his condition worsened and was admitted at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil. News that he had been put on life support surfaced earlier in the month, but the Brazilian star was able to watch the World Cup though he was dismayed that Brazil didn’t win.

His family gathered around him at the hospital in Brazil.
