By Aaron Humes: Holders of shop and beer liquor licenses, Publican Special licenses, and Night Club licenses will now close uniformly countrywide after the Ministry of Local Government, by statutory instrument, repealed and replaced several subsections under Regulation 5 of the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Regulations, Subsidiary Laws, 2003 (subsidiary to the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act, Chapter 175).
Shops and beer license holders are now required to be closed between 9 p.m. at night and 6 a.m. of the following day; Publican Special holders are to close from midnight to 9 a.m. and night clubs are to be closed between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m., replacing the established closing restrictions for particular weekdays and public and bank holidays for the license categories listed above.
The public, particularly license holders, is advised to take note of the amendments. The Ministry says that in the coming year, the ministry will carry out an extensive revision exercise to modernize the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act and its subsidiary regulations.
The new hours presumably apply for this New Year’s weekend, in which Monday, January 2 is a prescribed holiday.
