By Aaron Humes: A police investigation is underway simultaneously in the murder of tour guide Emert Flowers, 62, of Racecourse Street, Belize City, in which 77-year-old Dusseldore Waight was also injured, and the disappearance of 23-year-old Kyle Latchman.

Flowers and Waight were inside the former’s yard on Tuesday night when a gunman entered and began shooting at them, fatally injuring Flowers.

Flowers’ family told reporters that he was gainfully employed as a cruise tour operator and had been for 15 years after leaving the United States and was not known to be a troublemaker – but with regard to Latchman, he has been missing for three to four days. They suspect the killers wanted to “send a message” by targeting a family member.

According to one of Emert Flowers’s sisters (and therefore Latchman’s aunt), she was told that her nephew had a problem with someone and had gone missing. His suspected enemies were apparently shown where his father lived and attacked him.

Latchman was reported missing on Wednesday but was last seen on Monday, December 26 around 3:00 p.m. in the company of two men. Latchman is described as being of dark complexion, standing five feet, two inches tall, and weighing about 120 pounds. He was last seen wearing a multi-colour T-shirt with the writing “Savage” on the front, blue 3/4 jeans, and white tennis shoes.

Police have not officially linked Latchman’s disappearance with Flowers’s murder, but the younger man, who has an American passport, is known to them. Their investigations continue. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is urged to call 911, 922, or the nearest police station.
