International News: Pope Benedict’s condition ‘remains serious’, Vatican says

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, Pope Francis called on all to pray for former Pope Benedict who is “very sick”, ABC reports.

The health condition of the former Pope had worsened within a few hours, the Vatican informed.

Today, an official said that the former Pontiff “is absolutely lucid and alert.”

“Although his condition remains serious, the situation at the moment is stable,” Holy See Press Office Director Matteo Bruni stated.

“I want to ask you all for a special prayer for Pope Emeritus Benedict who sustains the Church in his silence. He is very sick,” Pope Francis said.

The ninety-five-year-old former Pope resigned from his position in 2013 citing “advanced age.”

Benedict spent Christmas at his residence in the Vatican at the former Mater Ecclesiae Monastery.
