International News: Southwest Airlines hope to resume normal operations on Friday

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Southwest Airlines said that it hopes to resume normal operations by Friday, December 30, 2022, Reuters report.

The Airlines canceled over 2,000 more flights or 58% of the airline’s daily scheduled trips for today.

The disruptions were triggered by a powerful winter storm that affected much of the United States over the Christmas holiday.

Other U.S. airlines also canceled thousands of flights but Southwest issues continued as other airlines resumed normal operations.

In a statement issued today, the company said that it was eager to get back to normal ahead of the New Year holiday weekend.

U.S. officials say that the company’s difficulties had gone beyond being a weather-driven issue and indicated a “system failure”.

Southwest Airlines executives apologized to customers this week and promised to address the issues that led to the disruptions.
