Belize City couple remanded to prison for firearms and drug offenses; woman granted Supreme Court bail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City couple was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this week on firearms and drug-related charges; however, the woman managed to make bail.

On Thursday, 28-year-old Anthony Wagner and 25-year-old Vanessa Morreira, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s court charged with one count of kept unlicensed firearm, one count of kept unlicensed ammunition, one count of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply to another, and one count of possession of controlled drugs.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges; however, due to the nature of the offense, they were remanded to prison until February 28, 2023.

The couple’s attorney, Orson Elrington, immediately filed a bail application at the Supreme Court, which was heard late in the evening by Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft. Justice Sancroft offered Morreira bail in the sum of $25,000 plus five sureties of $5,000 each.

Meanwhile, Wagner’s bail application will continue on January 3, 2023.

The couple was charged in connection with a .9mm pistol, 28 live rounds of ammunition, 136 grams of marijuana, and a separate 45 grams of marijuana found by police in their presence during a search conducted on December 27.
