Prime Minister declares J’Bria Bowens’ murder a “random act of terrorism”; assures Ambergris Caye will be safe

By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño has declared profound national sadness at the murder by shooting of American visitor J’Bria Michelle Bowens, shot to death on Friday night in Ambergris Caye in what appears to be a random act of violence.

P.M. Briceño said in a statement issued this evening, “Justice delivered swiftly can be the only comfort his family and community can know at this time, and the government has directed that Commissioner of Police Chester Williams leads the hunt for those who perpetrated this senseless act. The Commissioner, senior officers, and specialized police units have already commenced their work on the island and have detained suspects.”

He continues that the killing, while “senseless”, appears “remote and random” at this time and that Ambergris Caye remains safe due to “strong, disciplined Police presence and solid community support.”

To continue that record, the Prime Minister asks that residents cooperate with police in closing this case and to continue to assist them in cracking down on what crime there is on the island.
