Armed robbery reported in Corozal on New Year’s Eve; Perpetrator pistol whipped store owner

By Benjamin Flowers: An Asian grocery store in Corozal was robbed on New Year’s Eve.

Police say that just after 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2022, two men, one armed with a revolver, entered Rong’s Supermarket, and held the 58-year-old store owner at gunpoint.

The armed man pushed the storeowner to the floor while the unarmed perpetrator then jumped behind the register and stole $2,000 in cash. The owner tried to get up during the incident and the armed man hit him several times in the head.

The duo then made their escape running in the direction of 7th Street North, Corozal Town.

Police are investigating.
