By Benjamin Flowers: The United States Embassy in Belmopan has issued an official statement of condolence following the death of American tourist 23-year-old J’Bria Michelle Bowens, who was fatally shot in San Pedro on Friday night.
The Embassy said its staff was “saddened” by the incident and offered condolences to Bowen’s family and friends.
“We are closely monitoring the local authority’s investigation and stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance to the family. Out of respect for their privacy, we have nothing further to add at this time,” the Embassy said.
Bowens was sitting on the back of a golf cart near Central Park when someone from the direction of the park opened fire and hit her in the back of the neck.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has pledged to “leave no stone unturned” when looking for the perpetrators of the crime. Police are reportedly on the lookout for two suspects who are known gang affiliates, in connection with this incident.
