Drive-by shooting on Lake Independence Boulevard

By Aaron Humes: Police report that one man was shot earlier this morning in western Belize City while traveling in a vehicle on the Lake Independence Boulevard.

Around 8:15, a man walked into the Belama Police Station at the corner of Albert Hoy Avenue and Chetumal Boulevard in Belama Phase One asking for help for a friend who he said had just been shot.

The victim is identified as 30-year-old Benigno Loria, who was hit in the left side of his abdomen and left arm.

Loria and another man were traveling in a vehicle from the Fabers’ Road junction with the George Price Highway north toward the Chetumal Boulevard Bridge. They were passing the Eleanor Hall Administration Building when they took notice of a silver-colored vehicle going in the opposite direction.

Someone from this vehicle opened fire on them as the cars passed each other and Loria and the complainant were hit. They continued on toward the police station and made the report.

An emergency ambulance was called in and a medico-legal form was issued after treatment as investigations continue.
