International News: Migrants arrive in record numbers in Panama for year 2022

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, officials in Panama noted that for the year 2022, record numbers of migrants arrived in the country, most of them left Venezuela and made the trek en route to the U.S., Reuters report.

Data suggests that 248,283 migrants from different countries entered Panama.

The number is equivalent to the total for more than a decade.

According to the statistics, 150,392 of the migrants were from Venezuela.

Migrants from Venezuela often face challenges accessing food and basic services and employment in other countries but they continue to leave their home in search for better opportunities.

Migrants trek the Darien Gap region, a mountainous journey that has long been considered the most dangerous migrant route in Latin America.
