San Pedro youth charged with gang affiliation

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have arrested a San Pedro resident on charges of gang affiliation.

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, police formally arrested and charged 18-year-old Michael Deon Gamboa of the San Juan Area, San Pedro Town for the crime of being a member of a gang.

The charge is the first such for the year 2023, following an extensive crackdown on gang affiliates last year.

Under the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, Chapter 102 of the Laws of Belize, those charged with gang affiliation cannot receive bail at the Magistrate level and are remanded, in the first instance, to the Belize Central Prison.
