International News: Mexico reports first attack on media for 2023

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, January 1, 2023, a Mexican journalist escaped unharmed after a gunman attacked his vehicle in Sonora, Reuters reported.

The attack on the media on the first day of the New Year came after Mexico suffered its worst year for the press in 3 decades, with 15 murders.

Omar Castro, the director of La Nota Prensa de Sonora was traveling with his daughter and nephew when they shot at his vehicle.

The site posted photos of the bullet-riddled vehicle on social media.

The media site is known to report mainly on local politics, as well as entertainment and other news.

In 2022, many of the murdered journalists were small-town reporters running their own media outlets.
