By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police Corporal Elmer Nah has been making headlines since 2004 when he allegedly slashed the now Police Commissioner’s tires; and now as he prepares to stand trial for double murder, the Belize Police Department is also looking into having him dismissed.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said today that Nah had been found not guilty at an internal tribunal for his alleged involvement with a drug plane landing in November 2021, but has remained on interdiction because the verdict of the tribunal was appealed.
“I have since ordered a revision of the matter, and this morning I received the revision from the legal advisor…and the legal advisor advised that the adjudicator erred in various aspects of the trial, admitting evidence that ought not to have been admitted. And based on that he has ordered a retrial,” Williams said.
Williams said that the retrial will commence soon, but could not speak further on the matter as he is the ultimate decision maker in the process and is striving to keep the process fair.
Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa said that while rogue elements in the department are something that will always be an issue for the police, his ministry demonstrated its commitment to holding officers accountable by ensuring that Nah was not an active member of the department despite being found not guilty at the tribunal.
