Premier League of Belize Closing Championship to be 2nd Central American tournament to kick off in 2023

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) Closing Championship will be the second Central American tournament to kick off in 2023.

The Panamanian Football League kicks off on Friday, January 13, when champions El CAI de La Chorrera take on the newly ascended Umecit FC at the Agustín ‘Muquita’ Sánchez in La Chorrera, Panama.

The PLB kicks off on Saturday, January 14, with Champions Altitude taking on Benque Viejo at 7:30 pm at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence. Third place San Pedro Pirates host fourth place Progresso FC at the same time at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro.

On Sunday, January 15, the PLB completes its first set of fixtures with subchampions Verdes FC taking on the Belmopan Bandits at 4:00 pm at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio while Wagiya SC play at the same time against Belize City’s Port Layola FC at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga.

The Costa Rican championship will also start on that weekend with two games on Saturday, January 14, and four matches on Sunday, January 15.

The championships in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras get underway one week later on January 21 and 22.
