By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City residents, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old minor have been charged in connection with a video circulated on social media that police say promotes gang activity.
On Tuesday, Iver Ferguson appeared in court along with the co-accused minor, who was also accompanied by his mother.
The duo is facing one count of being a member of a gang, and one count of producing a video recording that promotes gang activity.
They both pleaded not guilty; however, the Magistrate explained that the offenses fall under Section 16 of the Crime Control & Justice Act, which prohibits bail in the first instance. The Magistrate then explained that bail can be sought via the Supreme Court through the assistance of an attorney.
Ferguson was remanded to the Belize Central Prison, while the minor was remanded to custody at the Wagner’s Youth Facility located within the prison.
They are scheduled to return to court on February 28.
