CNN Travel backs Belize as top destination to visit in 2023

Ambergris Caye Belize

By Aaron Humes: Recent ‘black eyes’ notwithstanding, Belize is still considered a top tourist destination, a reputation carefully built over many years.

This week CNN Travel listed The Jewel among the top 23 destinations to visit this year – for many reasons.

It’s “low-hassle” with direct flights to Belize City from a dozen or more North American airports between the months of November to April, the tourism “high season” in North America due to colder weather.

Our Caribbean coastline and particularly Ambergris Caye are calling cards for those eager to explore marine attractions including the Barrier Reef and Great Blue Hole, and if you are looking for places to stay, “eco-luxury” resort Alaia Belize opened in 2021 and Margaritaville Beach Resort is set to open on Ambergris in early 2023.

But as CNN writes, “Belize offers way more than its enticing islands. Lush rainforests, cave networks, winding rivers and rich Mayan archaeological sites invite exploration in a country that’s had an evolving sustainable tourism master plan since 2012. Ruins of the Mayan city of Altun Ha are just about an hour north of Belize City. Or farther west, Lamanai is one of Belize’s largest and most fascinating Mayan sites.”

Belize is no longer “Mother Nature’s Best Secret,” so come down and enjoy!
