By Aaron Humes: Police and Coast Guard operatives have joined the search for eight-year-old Luke Hansen of Roaring Creek, Cayo District after he apparently disappeared while swimming in the Roaring Creek River on Wednesday afternoon.

Thus far according to Police, efforts to recover Luke have been unsuccessful.

According to Luke’s grandfather Arturo Tillett in a statement to police, he took his grandsons Luke and Joseph, aged 10, and their cousin with him to swim in the Roaring Creek River near its confluence with the Macal River.

Around two in the afternoon, Tillett said he was sitting by the river bank, watching the boys swim in the shallow area, when they moved toward a deeper area of the river and then began jumping up and down, showing signs of distress.

Tillett said he went after them and managed to retrieve Joseph and the cousin but Luke apparently went under the water.

Police investigations continue.
