By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The leader of Los Mexicles, Ernesto Piñón de la Cruz, also known as “El Neto” reportedly died after a shootout on Thursday, 4 days after he escaped prison in a violent break-out in Ciudad Juarez, Reuters report.
Los Mexicles gang which is linked to the Sinaloa cartel is responsible for the violence, authorities say.
Mexican officials say that “El Neto” was located and pursued but on the way to the Attorney General’s offices, he was injured and died.
He had escaped along with 29 other inmates on New Year’s Day during an attack on the prison.
Authorities say that during the break-out, 19 people died.
Since then, law enforcement authorities had been on the hunt for him.
