By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, immigration officials from the United States and Mexico will meet in El Paso, a day before U.S. President Joe Biden’s first visit to the border, Reuters report.
The meeting seeks “to coordinate actions to prevent migrants from being exposed to risks,” the Mexican Immigration Institute said in a statement.
Biden will visit the border on Sunday ahead of his attendance at the North American Summit in Mexico where discussions with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will include immigration.
The United States recorded 2.2 million migrant arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2022.
The U.S. has also announced that the country would expand restrictions to rapidly expel Cuban, Nicaraguan and Haitian migrants caught illegally crossing the border.
