International News: U.S. President Joe Biden visits border with Mexico

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, U.S. President, Joe Biden visited the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas to view one of the most significant issues, BBC reports.

President Biden also visited a migrant center in El Paso and joined agents in touring a section of the wall.

For the year 2022, U.S. authorities made over 2.2 million migrant arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border, higher than any year on record.

Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are meeting in Mexico for a North American summit.

Ahead of the summit, Biden announced that the U.S. will send 30,000 migrants per month from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Venezuela back across the border from among those who entered the U.S. illegally.

El Paso, Texas is one of the most common crossing points that migrants use.
