By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Government of Venezuela has ordered the detention of 3 exiled former lawmakers, the Associated Press reports.
The 3 lawmakers are at the forefront to unseat President Nicolas Maduro.
Last week, the opposition selected an all-female team led by Dinorah Figuera to lead the National Assembly.
The National Assembly is led by the country’s opposition and is considered the country’s last democratically elected institution.
Today, the country’s Attorney General said that the Government had ordered the arrest of Figuera and her two deputies on charges of treason, money laundering, and impersonating public officials.
However, all 3 women, like many of Maduro’s opponents had previously fled Venezuela.
