International News: China retaliates against South Korea and Japan over COVID-19 restrictions

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: China has halted the issuance of short-term visas to persons from South Korea and Japan in retaliation for COVID-19 restrictions on Chinese travelers, BBC reports.

Officials say that the pause on the visas will remain until “discriminatory” entry restrictions against China are lifted.

However, many other countries including the United States have joined on imposing entry requirements on travelers from China due to the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases.

On Sunday, China fully re-opened its borders for the first time since 2020.

Last month, China abandoned its strict zero-covid policy and since then, there has been an increase in cases.
