By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On January 15, 2023, Belize will commemorate the third George Price Day. The date was chosen in honor of the birthday of the Father of the Nation, George Cadle Price.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology is honoring the legacy of Price by launching the ‘Let Belize Live: Speeches from the Premier’ Exhibition.
The exhibition will feature 12 speeches from Price during his time as Premier from 1964 to 1981.
Price is recognized as the Father of the Nation because of his life-long contributions to Belize and as the leader of the Peaceful Constructive Belizean revolution.
Price was relentless in his quest to see Belize become an independent country and under his leadership, the PUP led a campaign to garner international support for Belize’s Independence.
Price passed away on September 19, 2011. The fondest memories that Belizeans carry of Price is of him driving a jeep through the villages and towns of Belize meeting and greeting every single Belizean, young and old.
The Ministry says that this initiative is being made possible through the efforts of the team at the Institute for Social and Cultural Research ISCR NICH at the National Institute of Culture and History in collaboration with the Belize Archives and Records Service, the Belize National Library Service and Information System, The George Price Centre and the University of Belize.
The exhibition will be launched on Friday, January 13, 2023.
The national holiday will be observed on Monday, January 16, 2023 in lieu of Sunday, January 15.
