By Aaron Humes: A pair of brothers from Belmopan say they were robbed last October at home by a group of persons, allegedly including at least one police officer.
According to 80-year-old Candido Martinez of Lamux Street, Maya Mopan, Belmopan, he was at home with his brother Sergio Perez on October 14 when five Hispanic men entered through the back door. They recognized two of the men, including a police officer reportedly attached to Roaring Creek Police Station and another person they believed to be a police officer, all in camouflage clothing.
Two of the men grabbed the older men and tied their hands and the first-named police officer demanded the location of “the money” while pointing a firearm at Martinez’s right ear. Martinez, frightened, pointed him to a black Adidas duffle bag with red lining on the sofa beneath some clothing.
The group removed some of the money from the duffle bag which contained $250,000 in $50 and $100 stacked notes, putting it in their pants pockets and a separate green bag. They took the bag and its contents with them.
The named police officer threatened the pair with their lives if they reported the matter to the Police, and fled the scene.
Police visited the residence after taking the report on December 29 and found no sign of forced entry; the door was secured by a single nail. Police are now looking for the suspects.
