By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Canoe Association has added a Family Category to the Boom to Manatee race.

The BCA’s Boom to Manatee Race is the first race of 2023. Earlier the BACA had said that the race would consist of seven categories, namely Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, Masters, Junior, Students (Intramural), and C2. The Family Category had not been included, but the paddlers asked for it and the BCA has obliged.

The race, to be held this coming Sunday, January 15, starts at Henderson’s Bank in Burrell Boom and heads to Manatee Lookout in Ladyville at 10:00 am.

Registration begins at 9:00 am at Henderson’s Bank, though the BCA said teams may pre-register.

The entrance fee, which includes lunch for the paddlers, is $100, said the BCA.

Stationery House’s Amado Cruz and Daniel Cruz won the 2022 Boom to Manatee Canoe Race which was sponsored by Loewen’s Hardware.
