Man walks free from firearms charges after arresting officer failed to show up to testify

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 32-year-old Belize City resident charged with firearms offenses walked free from his charges this week after the arresting officer failed to show up to the court to testify.

Clifford Anderson appeared unrepresented in court on Tuesday, charged with one count of possession of an unlicensed firearm and one count of possession of unlicensed ammunition.

Prosecutor in the case, Sgt. Christopher Smith called the officer as his first witness but the officer never showed up. Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser then struck out the matter for want of prosecution.

While Anderson walked free of those town charges, he remains in custody at the Belize Central Prison on charges of being a member of a gang.

He was arrested and charged with gang affiliation back in October 2022.
