International News: Gang member in coffin pretended to be dead in attempt to flee El Salvador

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On January 11, 2023, Salvadoran authorities detained an alleged gang member who was faking to be dead and was inside a coffin, all in an attempt to flee El Salvador, Semana.com reports.

The culprit is suspected to be a part of the Mara Salvatrucha gang, one of the gangs responsible for crime and violence in the country.

The detainee was identified as Alexander Vladimir Hernández, alias Servero, and is accused of being a member of the MS-13.

Salvadoran Minister of Justice and Public security, Gustavo Villatoro confirmed that Hernandez was detained after authorities found him being transported inside a coffin.

The crackdown on gangs continues in the Central American nation with the state of emergency being extended for the tenth time on Wednesday.
