By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, Mexico’s Immigration institute said that it found 3 unaccompanied Salvadoran children on the Rio Grande at the U.S.-Mexico border, Reuters report.
The minors are sisters ages 9,6, and 1, the institute said.
When authorities found the children, the oldest sister was holding her infant sister in her arms.
El Salvador’s Foreign Ministry says that it is aware of the incident and is in discussion with Mexican officials.
The crossing at the Rio Grande is one of the last treks that migrants take on their arduous journey en route to the U.S. where they go in hopes of better opportunities.
