By Breaking Belize News Staff: Fifty-six-year-old Noel Jackson was spared going to trial for holding a knife to his 67-year-old ex-lover’s neck during a burglary after the victim dropped the charges.

Jackson appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with a single count of aggravated burglary, to which he pleaded not guilty. In court the Magistrate inquired how Jackson was charged with burglary when he and the victim reportedly have the same living address.

The victim, who resides in the US and makes trips to Belize, testified that she and Jackson had a relationship that ended but she employed him as the caretaker of her home while she is not in country. She told the court that she wants no further legal action against him but she is seeking a protection order from the Family Court, with the hearing for that matter scheduled for January 18.

With that, Jackson was set free from the charge for want of prosecution. He was facing a possible 15-year sentence on conviction of aggravated burglary.
