Man in Punta Gorda shot after exchange of fire with police officer

By Aaron Humes: A man was hospitalized Saturday night after a reported exchange of gunfire with a police officer in Punta Gorda Town.

Sometime after 10 p.m. a young man opened fire at a police officer who returned fire. The man was shot and wounded to the back. He was taken to the Punta Gorda Hospital where he is being treated.

Authorities are investigating.
